Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Education has introduced a new framework governing examination preparation for students of determination in government schools, aimed at ensuring assessments are tailored to individual learning needs while maintaining fairness and consistency.
The framework establishes six key regulations and seven core standards for students whose Individual Education Plans (IEPs) include modifications to curriculum content or learning outcomes. Under the new system, examinations will be designed to assess each student’s knowledge and skills in line with their educational abilities and approved learning objectives.
According to ministry guidelines, assessments for students of determination will continue to be conducted within the centralised evaluation system used across all grade levels. Examinations will be administered in schools and prepared jointly by subject teachers and special education teachers.
The ministry stated that teachers involved in developing a student’s Individual Education Plan will also be responsible for preparing related assessments, including end-of-year examinations. Questions must be based on the learning outcomes and standards specified in the approved educational plan.
The framework places strong emphasis on personalised assessment, requiring schools to consider each student’s educational needs and approved accommodations. Special education specialists and school support teams will supervise both the preparation and implementation of examinations, taking into account the nature of the student’s disability and the goals outlined in their educational plan.
Officials said the initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to inclusive education and ensuring equal opportunities for all students to demonstrate their academic progress.
