Dubai: Roads and Transport Authority has completed 30 percent of its 14.5-kilometre Dedicated Bus and Taxi Lanes Project, a major initiative aimed at improving public transport efficiency, reducing travel times and encouraging more residents to use buses and taxis.
The project covers six major roads across Dubai: Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street, 2nd December Street, Al Satwa Street, Al Nahda Street, Omar Bin Al Khattab Street and Naif Street. Once completed, the total length of dedicated bus lanes in the emirate will increase to 20.6 kilometres.
According to RTA, the dedicated lanes are expected to reduce bus journey times by 24 to 59 percent during peak hours and improve bus arrival times by 28 to 56 percent. The largest travel time reductions are projected on Naif Street, Al Satwa Street, Omar Bin Al Khattab Street and Al Nahda Street.
The authority also expects the project to increase bus ridership by up to 30 percent on some routes while improving operational efficiency and reducing the number of buses required to maintain services.
RTA Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, Mattar Al Tayer, said the project forms part of Dubai’s long-term sustainable mobility strategy aimed at making public transport faster, more reliable and more attractive for daily commuters.
The latest expansion builds on previous phases that delivered 6.1 kilometres of dedicated bus lanes across the city, contributing to shorter travel times, improved service reliability and higher passenger satisfaction.
