Kuwait City: Kuwait’s inflation rate recorded another increase in May, according to the latest figures released by the Central Statistical Bureau. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 2.49 percent compared to the same month last year, while monthly inflation increased by 0.07 percent compared to April.
Officials said the rise was mainly driven by higher prices in essential sectors, including food, transportation, healthcare, clothing, education and various consumer services. These categories continue to have a significant impact on household spending across the country.
The largest annual increase was recorded in the food and beverages category, where prices climbed by 5.96 percent. Transportation costs rose by 4.46 percent, while healthcare services registered an increase of 1.19 percent.
Prices for household furnishings and maintenance services increased by 1.18 percent, while clothing and footwear costs rose by 1.10 percent. Housing-related services recorded a 0.49 percent increase, and tobacco products and cigarettes saw a marginal rise of 0.07 percent.
The latest data indicate that inflationary pressures continue across several key sectors of the economy. With food and transportation remaining major components of household expenses, analysts expect the rising costs to have a noticeable impact on the budgets of many families in Kuwait.
