Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed 72 per cent of the major upgrade of its nol payment system, bringing the emirate closer to a fully digital and cashless public transport network.
The project will replace the existing card-based ticketing (CBT) system with a modern account-based ticketing (ABT) platform, allowing passengers to make seamless digital payments across Dubai’s public transport network. The full rollout is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2027.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said the upgrade is a key component of the authority’s digital transformation strategy and will create a unified payment ecosystem connecting various public transport services.
He added that the new platform will improve operational efficiency, simplify travel and provide a more convenient experience for commuters while supporting Dubai’s vision of becoming a leading global smart city.
The upgraded nol system is expected to offer greater flexibility, enhanced customer services and a smoother digital payment experience as part of the emirate’s wider smart mobility initiatives.
