‘Thudakkam’ arrives carrying considerable expectations as the acting debut of Vismaya Mohanlal, daughter of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. Director Jude Anthany Joseph turns a familiar revenge premise into an engaging commercial action thriller, combining emotion, survival and high-energy confrontations. The first half takes its time establishing the characters and conflict, while the narrative gains considerable momentum after the interval and builds towards an intense, violent climax.
Vismaya makes a confident first impression, handling both the emotional and physical demands of her role with notable composure. Her action sequences are among the film’s major highlights, while Aashish Joe Antony delivers an effective performance as the antagonist. Sai Kumar, Manoj K Jayan, Miya George, Ganesh Kumar, Bobby Kurian and Jaffar Idukki provide solid support, while Mohanlal’s brief cameo adds an extra emotional and crowd-pleasing moment.
Technically, the film is strengthened by Jakes Bejoy’s background score, energetic stunt choreography by Yannick Ben and Stunt Silva, and Jomon T John’s polished cinematography. Although the screenplay occasionally falls back on predictable commercial conventions and some empowerment moments feel overstated, these shortcomings do not significantly affect the overall experience. ‘Thudakkam’ may not reinvent the revenge thriller, but it delivers an entertaining theatrical experience and gives Vismaya Mohanlal a promising start in Malayalam cinema.
