7.7-magnitude earthquake strikes southern Panama, tsunami warnings issued

A powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck southern Panama, damaging buildings and prompting tsunami warnings for several countries along the Pacific coast. Residents in Panama City rushed out of buildings and gathered in the streets as tremors were felt across the capital.

Authorities reported structural damage to homes, roads, hotels, government buildings and churches. Several people sustained minor injuries, but no deaths or missing persons were reported in initial assessments. Panama City’s two metro lines were temporarily suspended, and passengers were evacuated from some stations as emergency officials assessed the situation.

Tsunami warnings were issued for Colombia, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Guatemala amid concerns about possible coastal impacts. Authorities continued monitoring conditions and assessing the damage, urging residents to follow official safety instructions and await further updates.
