Renault plans to launch a new battery electric vehicle (BEV) built in South Korea in 2028, following the introduction of a new hybrid model in 2027, as the automaker seeks to expand its product lineup and strengthen its global electrification strategy.
The roadmap was outlined by Renault executives at the 2026 Paris Motor Show. The upcoming electric vehicle will feature advanced driver-assistance technologies, including Level 2++ autonomous driving capabilities, according to Renault Chief Technology Officer Philippe Brunet. The company is also developing its City NOA system, designed to support navigation-assisted driving in urban environments.
The planned launches come as Renault Korea faces declining sales. The company sold 47,231 vehicles globally in the first nine months of 2026, down 32% from the same period a year earlier. Domestic sales fell 32% to 27,203 units, while exports dropped 32% to 20,028 units, despite the recent launch of the Filante hybrid SUV.
Renault’s Director of Global Sales and Operations, Ivan Segal, said South Korea remained a strategically important market. He highlighted the need to broaden the company’s portfolio beyond its existing hybrid models and increase the contribution of its Busan manufacturing facility to international markets.
Renault considers the Busan plant one of its most competitive production bases for C- and D-segment vehicles. The company intends to increase production and exports from the facility, positioning it as a key international manufacturing hub. The 2027 hybrid and 2028 electric vehicle launches are expected to support that strategy while expanding Renault’s presence in South Korea’s evolving automotive market.
