Kuwait to Kick Off International ‘Football for Peace’ Initiative

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the upcoming launch of the international “Football for Peace in Kuwait – Land of Friendship and Peace” initiative in February 2024. This initiative aims to promote humanitarian diplomacy and unite people through the power of sports.

A preparatory meeting was recently held, bringing together ambassadors from participating countries, including Italy, Palestine, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Egypt, India, and Armenia.

Sheikha Intisar Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and Chairperson of Alnowair Initiative, emphasized that the initiative, organized in collaboration with the Kuwait Red Crescent Society and the United Nations in Kuwait, will feature friendly matches between youth football teams from various academies.

All proceeds from the matches, including an auction of football memorabilia, will be donated to support Palestinian children.

Assistant Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Al-Jarallah highlighted Kuwait’s commitment to using sports as a tool for diplomacy and peaceful resolution of conflicts, aligning with the UN Resolution recognizing sport as an enabler of sustainable development.
