Kuwait Authorities Seize Warehouse Used to Smuggle Subsidized Food Supplies Abroad

Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has uncovered a smuggling operation involving subsidized food supplies, seizing a warehouse and arresting individuals from the Egyptian community behind the illicit scheme. The crackdown began when customs officials at the Al-Salmi border crossing intercepted a vehicle attempting to leave Kuwait with hidden subsidized food items. Following the interception, a specialized investigative team traced the goods to a warehouse used to hoard and prepare such supplies for illegal export.

Authorities confirmed that the warehouse contained large quantities of government-subsidized food intended for smuggling and sale outside Kuwait. All individuals involved were apprehended, and legal measures have been initiated, with suspects referred to the competent authorities for prosecution. The Ministry of Interior emphasized that exploiting state subsidies is a serious offense that undermines public resources and national food security.

In a statement, the ministry reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward any form of subsidy abuse or tampering with state resources. It highlighted ongoing security and monitoring campaigns aimed at identifying and dismantling networks involved in smuggling subsidized goods, which are intended to support local citizens and residents at controlled prices.

The public has been urged to cooperate with authorities by reporting any suspicious activities related to the hoarding or smuggling of subsidized commodities. This operation is part of Kuwait’s broader efforts to enforce regulatory compliance, protect government subsidies, and ensure that essential food supplies remain accessible and affordable within the country.
