Kuwait Grants Starlink Licence for Satellite Internet Services

Kuwait City: Kuwait’s Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority has granted a licence to Starlink to provide satellite internet services in the country.

Officials said the decision aims to strengthen Kuwait’s digital infrastructure and support the country’s broader digital transformation strategy.

In a statement to Kuwait News Agency, CITRA confirmed that the licence was issued after the company met all required technical and regulatory standards. Authorities also ensured that Starlink complies with national telecommunications laws and spectrum usage regulations.

The service uses low Earth orbit satellite technology, which allows users to access high speed internet with lower latency compared with traditional satellite systems. Officials said the introduction of the service will enhance competition in the telecommunications sector and provide consumers with more connectivity options.

CITRA also acknowledged the role of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority in facilitating a favourable investment environment for Starlink’s operations in the country.

Authorities added that Starlink equipment and services will become available to the public once final technical and operational arrangements are completed.

The regulator said it will continue to update communication and technology frameworks to keep pace with global innovations and expand internet access, particularly in areas where traditional cable networks are difficult to deploy.
