Kuwait tightens CCTV security rules for businesses and industrial facilities

Authorities in Kuwait have introduced stricter regulations for CCTV security systems installed in industrial facilities and commercial establishments.

The new directive was issued by the Public Authority for Industry as part of efforts to strengthen security measures across the country’s industrial zones and business sectors.

Officials instructed companies to ensure that all CCTV systems fully comply with approved security and cybersecurity standards.

The authority stressed that businesses must take preventive measures to protect surveillance systems from hacking attempts, cyberattacks and unauthorised access to video footage.

Among the key requirements, companies have been directed to replace default camera passwords with strong secure passwords and ensure that CCTV systems are connected only to secure internet networks.

Authorities also advised institutions to disable remote access features unless absolutely necessary in order to reduce cybersecurity risks.

Businesses were further instructed to use surveillance equipment supplied only by reliable and trusted companies.

The Public Authority for Industry warned that companies violating security regulations or failing to meet required standards could face strict legal action, including suspension or cancellation of operating licences.

Officials confirmed that special inspection teams have been assigned to monitor CCTV systems and ensure compliance with the new rules.

The move comes amid growing global concerns over cyber threats targeting surveillance systems and digital infrastructure.

Authorities said the updated measures are intended to strengthen public safety, protect sensitive information and improve cybersecurity standards across Kuwait’s industrial and commercial sectors.
