Ministry of Electricity Water and Renewable Energy has unveiled plans to strengthen Kuwait’s electricity infrastructure by establishing 31 new main transformer stations during the current fiscal year.
The move comes as the country experiences growing electricity demand driven by population growth, expanding residential developments and increasing energy consumption during the summer months.
Officials said the project will focus on expanding both high-voltage and extra high-voltage transmission networks to improve the reliability and efficiency of the national power grid.
The expansion is expected to enhance the country’s ability to cope with peak electricity demand during extreme summer temperatures while supporting future urban development projects.
Authorities noted that modernising the transmission network will help reduce pressure on existing infrastructure and improve the overall stability of electricity supplies across Kuwait.
As part of the wider upgrade programme, the Central Agency for Public Tenders recently invited bids for projects related to the operation and maintenance of electricity distribution networks.
Six companies have reportedly submitted bids for the contracts, which are currently undergoing technical evaluation by the ministry.
Officials expect the technical review process to be completed within the next 30 days before the next phase of implementation begins.
The project forms part of Kuwait’s long-term strategy to strengthen energy security, improve service reliability and meet growing demand from residential, commercial and industrial sectors.
