Israel and Hezbollah Accept Ceasefire Proposal, Fighting Persists

Fighting continued in southern Lebanon despite both Israel and Hezbollah accepting a US-backed proposal aimed at partially halting hostilities.

Donald Trump said he had spoken with representatives from both sides and claimed they had agreed to stop attacks. Lebanese authorities confirmed that Hezbollah had accepted a plan to halt strikes on Israel, while Israel agreed not to target Beirut under the proposed arrangement.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that military action would continue if Hezbollah attacks Israeli cities or civilians. He also indicated that Israeli operations in southern Lebanon would remain ongoing.

Despite signs that the ceasefire is largely holding, both sides reported overnight incidents. Hezbollah said it targeted Israeli tanks in southern Lebanese areas with missiles and artillery fire, while the Israeli military reported intercepting projectiles launched from Lebanon.

Lebanese media also reported Israeli strikes and explosions in several southern regions, including large-scale demolition activities in border areas. No immediate reports of casualties were released following the latest exchanges.

The tensions come amid wider regional concerns involving Iran, which has warned that Israeli military actions in Lebanon could undermine broader ceasefire efforts and ongoing diplomatic negotiations involving Tehran and Washington.

International efforts continue to focus on preventing further escalation, with the United States pushing for a gradual de-escalation plan designed to reduce hostilities and stabilise the border region.

Although the latest ceasefire proposal has reduced large-scale attacks, sporadic clashes and mutual accusations suggest the situation remains fragile, with regional powers closely monitoring developments.
