Abu Dhabi: The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has announced that its specialised Centres of Excellence have treated more than 3,000 complex medical cases since their launch in 2023, strengthening advanced healthcare services across the emirate.
According to the department, the centres have supported 17 clinical trials, introduced four specialised training programmes for healthcare professionals and secured eight international accreditations. The initiative was recently recognised with the Strategic Impact Initiative Award under the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance.
The centres focus on several highly specialised areas, including heart care for adults and children, stroke treatment, burn care, stem cell transplantation and multi-organ transplantation. Officials said the facilities have enabled 1,664 families to receive specialised treatment within Abu Dhabi, contributing to a 60 per cent reduction in overseas treatment cases.
Advanced procedures performed at the centres include lung transplants, robot-assisted dual kidney transplants, minimally invasive aneurysm treatments and complex paediatric heart surgeries using endoscopic techniques. The facilities have also introduced gene therapies for some thalassemia patients and adopted advanced burn treatment technologies to improve recovery outcomes.
The Department of Health said the centres continue to support Abu Dhabi’s goal of becoming a leading global destination for advanced healthcare and medical innovation.
