Kuwait Fire Force Warns of Higher Kitchen Fire Risks During Summer

Kuwait Fire Force has urged residents to take extra precautions in kitchens during the summer, when the risk of household fires can increase. Parents have also been advised to remain particularly vigilant as children are spending more time at home during the school holidays.

Brigadier General Mohammed Al Gharib warned residents never to use water to put out a cooking-oil fire, as this can cause the flames to spread rapidly. A fire blanket or another safe method of completely covering the flames should be used instead. If the fire cannot be controlled, residents should leave the building immediately and call 112, providing details about the location and situation.

Residents should also avoid switching electrical appliances or lights on or off if they suspect a gas leak, as an electrical spark could ignite the gas. If it is safe to do so, the gas regulator should be disconnected and doors and windows opened for ventilation before leaving the home. Children should be kept away from stoves, hot cookware, gas cylinders and flammable materials, while residents are advised not to attempt to fight an uncontrollable fire themselves.
