Ingredients
1½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup almond milk
½ cup vegetable oil
1 cup hot water
2 teaspoons vanilla essence
1 tablespoon white vinegar
8–10 fresh strawberries, sliced
Method
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 175°C. Grease and line an 8-inch round cake tin with parchment paper.
Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
Step 3: In another bowl, combine the almond milk, vegetable oil, hot water, vanilla essence and white vinegar.
Step 4: Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until the batter is smooth. Avoid overmixing.
Step 5: Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin and spread it evenly.
Step 6: Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean.
Step 7: Let the cake cool in the tin for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 8: Garnish with fresh strawberry slices before serving.
