Washington: The United States has launched another wave of airstrikes against Iran after President Donald Trump vowed to “hit them hard again” following an exchange of attacks between the two countries.
Explosions were reported in several locations across southern Iran, including the port cities of Bandar Abbas and Sirik along the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media also reported blasts near Konarak, Chabahar, Jask, and on Abu Musa Island, while air defence systems were activated in parts of the region.
Following the strikes, Trump said on his Truth Social platform that the operation was retaliation for Iran’s alleged attacks on commercial vessels, warning that any further attacks would trigger an even stronger US response.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it targeted 90 Iranian military sites, including air defence systems and military logistics infrastructure, with the stated objective of reducing Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping and civilian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Gulf countries reported heightened security concerns following the strikes. Explosions were reported in Bahrain, Kuwait said it intercepted incoming missiles and drones, and Qatar issued a security alert as regional tensions escalated.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf condemned the US action, warning that Iran would respond to any further attacks and insisting that future access through the Strait of Hormuz would be determined by Iran rather than external pressure.
The extent of the damage inside Iran has not yet been independently verified, although Iranian media reported power outages in some coastal areas and a fire at a military facility.
