Kuwait City: Kuwait has issued a weather advisory after the Al-Ajiri Scientific Center warned that the seasonal ‘Al-Samoom’ hot winds have begun affecting the country, bringing extreme heat, dry conditions and an increased risk of dust storms.
According to the centre, the annual weather phenomenon could push temperatures to around 50°C in the coming days. The Kuwait Meteorological Department also warned that strengthening northwesterly winds are likely to generate widespread dust, reducing visibility in several areas, particularly in open desert regions.
The warning comes after temperatures across parts of Kuwait reached 49°C to 50°C in recent days, with the arrival of the Al-Samoom winds expected to intensify the heat further.
Authorities have urged residents to take the following precautions:
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially during the hottest hours of the day.
- Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
- Wear face masks or other protective gear during dusty conditions.
- Motorists should exercise caution, particularly on highways and open roads, where blowing dust may significantly reduce visibility.
Officials said the extreme heat and dusty weather are expected to continue over the coming days and advised the public to follow weather updates and comply with official safety guidelines.
