Kuwait City: Kuwait’s traffic authorities have warned motorists to move broken-down vehicles off the road immediately, stressing that vehicles left unattended may be treated as abandoned and subject to legal action.
Abdullah Bouhasan, Head of the Public Relations Department at the General Department of Traffic, said motorists should, whenever possible, move disabled vehicles to a safe lane on the roadside to prevent accidents and traffic disruption.
Drivers are also advised to switch on hazard warning lights and place a reflective warning triangle or safety sign at a safe distance behind the vehicle to alert approaching motorists.
Authorities warned that vehicles left on the road without following these procedures could be impounded, while owners may face fines and other legal penalties.
Ahead of the holiday travel season, the Traffic Department urged motorists planning road trips to carry out comprehensive vehicle inspections before departure. Drivers should ensure that tyres, brakes, engine oil and coolant are in good condition and that the vehicle registration remains valid.
Officials also reminded residents, including expatriates travelling abroad by land, air or sea, to settle all outstanding traffic fines before leaving Kuwait. Those with unpaid traffic violations will not be permitted to depart the country until the fines have been cleared.
