Kuwait Manpower Authority Highlights Workplace Safety Rights and Duties

Kuwait City: Kuwait’s Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) has issued new guidance outlining the rights and responsibilities of employers and workers in ensuring workplace safety as part of its “Know Your Rights” awareness campaign.

The authority stressed that maintaining a safe working environment is a shared responsibility between employers and employees, with both parties required to comply with the provisions of Kuwait’s labour law.

Under Article 87 of the Labour Law, employers have the right to require workers to follow safety instructions and properly use protective equipment. Employees are also responsible for protecting their own safety as well as that of their colleagues.

PAM noted that Articles 83 and 86 guarantee workers the right to a healthy and safe working environment. Employers are legally required to provide all necessary safety equipment free of charge to employees.

The authority also reminded employers that, under Article 88, they must provide insurance coverage for workers against workplace accidents and occupational diseases.

PAM said workplace safety begins with commitment and ends with protection, urging all establishments to strictly comply with occupational health and safety standards. It added that maintaining safe workplaces helps protect workers’ lives while improving overall working conditions.
