Kuwait City: Kuwait’s total number of buildings has reached nearly 230,000 during the first half of 2026, reflecting the country’s continued urban expansion and infrastructure development, according to official statistics.
Among the country’s six governorates, Ahmadi recorded the highest number of buildings with 52,400, followed by Jahra (46,900), Farwaniya (35,900), Hawalli (34,300), Capital (33,600) and Mubarak Al-Kabeer (26,300).
Private residential properties account for the majority of buildings in Kuwait, with around 174,500 private homes. These include 157,900 villas, 16,400 traditional houses, 2,813 chalets, 629 residential complexes, 100 hotels, 71 palaces and 60 kiosks.
Hawalli Governorate has the largest number of residential buildings, with 5,310, followed by Ahmadi (3,164) and Farwaniya (2,669).
In the hospitality sector, the Capital Governorate leads with 37 hotels, ahead of Hawalli (36) and Ahmadi (20). Jahra is the only governorate without a registered hotel.
The latest figures also highlight the country’s expanding public infrastructure, with 1,144 schools, 104 hospitals, 1,608 mosques, 1,220 factories, 6,971 farms, 5,081 commercial buildings, 381 cooperative society buildings and 238 banks operating across Kuwait.
Officials said the figures reflect Kuwait’s ongoing urban development and broader economic growth.
