Trump Halts Iran Attack Pending Rapid Peace Agreement

Washington: US President Donald Trump said he has cancelled a planned military strike against Iran, giving Tehran and other Middle Eastern countries additional time to finalise the framework of a potential peace agreement.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran and other countries in the region had requested time to complete negotiations, adding that Israel had also joined the commitment.

According to Trump, the parties have agreed on the broad “perimeters” of a possible agreement. He said one of its central elements would be the immediate, complete and total reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway for global energy supplies.

Trump also said the proposed agreement would seek to bring an end to what he described as Iran’s nuclear threat.

The US president said he decided to cancel the planned attack in the interest of global stability and the future of Iran. However, he made clear that withholding military action depends on the parties reaching an agreement quickly.

The announcement signals a potential diplomatic opening amid heightened regional tensions, although the details and final terms of any agreement have yet to be announced.
