A 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck southern Peru, causing damage to homes and public facilities and leaving at least two people injured. The earthquake occurred in the southern Andes at around 1 p.m. local time on Thursday, according to the US Geological Survey.
The tremor was felt across several regions, including Ica, Arequipa, Huancavelica, Apurimac and Cusco, as well as in the capital Lima. Two people were injured in the town of Coracora in Parinacochas province while residents were evacuating their homes following the earthquake, according to Civil Defence officials.
Authorities reported damage to 22 homes, six health centres and one school across several districts. Emergency teams are assessing the affected areas and monitoring the situation as authorities continue to respond to the impact of the earthquake.
