Kuwait has referred cases involving alleged financial irregularities at the Public Authority for Disabled Affairs to the Public Prosecution, with the suspected losses estimated at more than KD 1.2 million (around US$3.95 million).
Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr Amthal Al-Huwaila ordered the cases to be referred to the prosecution following investigations into maintenance works and contracts at the authority.
The investigation reportedly found serious violations in several contracts, including payments made for work or materials that had not been fully provided as specified in the agreements. The alleged irregularities resulted in an estimated loss of KD 1.211 million to public funds.
This is the second time within a week that the minister has referred suspected corruption cases to the Public Prosecution.
No Compromise on Public Funds
Al-Huwaila stressed that protecting public funds is a responsibility that allows no compromise, and that strict legal and administrative measures will be taken against violations of a criminal nature.
She also said the authority would take all necessary steps to recover funds obtained unlawfully.
The minister warned that action would be taken against those responsible for negligence or involvement in the alleged violations, regardless of their positions or ranks. She added that stronger monitoring would continue to ensure transparency in the use of public funds.
