Congo’s Ebola death toll rises above 3,000, health authorities say

The death toll from an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has risen to 3,007, according to the country’s health authorities.

The outbreak is linked to the rare Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus. According to health authorities, it is the second-largest and fastest-spreading Ebola outbreak on record.

The Bundibugyo strain is considered particularly concerning because there are no approved vaccines or specific treatments for the strain, making outbreak control and supportive care especially important.

Health authorities continue to monitor the situation as efforts focus on containing transmission and providing care to those affected.
