The process for transferring residency permits to Palestinian passports for those currently residing in Kuwait using Palestinian travel documents has entered a new phase. The General Department of Residency Affairs has begun sending related notifications to affected residents through the Sahel app. The directive requires residents to approach the Palestinian Embassy in Kuwait to obtain a Palestinian Authority passport. Once the passport is obtained, the existing Kuwait residency permit can be transferred to the new passport and subsequently renewed.
Palestinian Ambassador to Kuwait, Rami Tahboub, said the embassy is coordinating continuously with Kuwaiti authorities to streamline the process. A period of three months has been allotted for completing the residency permit transfer.
Approximately 8,700 people currently holding Palestinian travel documents fall under this process. Those who obtained passports after the Palestinian passport system was introduced will also be included. Anticipating that the number of applicants may increase in the coming days, the Palestinian Embassy has begun making the necessary arrangements. Facilities are being set up to speed up both the passport issuance process and the subsequent residency permit transfer procedures. The ambassador also stated that the embassy has been in contact with the Palestinian Ministry of Interior to expedite passport issuance for Palestinians residing in Kuwait and has requested that the process be sped up.
