Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has simplified passport renewal procedures for citizens by introducing an online renewal service through the government’s unified digital services platform, Sahel.
Kuwaiti citizens aged 21 and above can now apply to renew their passports through the app without having to complete the application process in person.
The service has been introduced by the General Directorate of Nationality and Travel Documents as part of efforts to make government services faster and more accessible.
How to renew a Kuwaiti passport through Sahel
- Select the Ministry of Interior service
Open the Sahel app and go to the Services section. Select the Ministry of Interior from the available government services.
- Access passport services
Choose Kuwaiti Passport Services and then select the Renew Kuwaiti Passport option.
- Enter the required information
Applicants must provide details including the location where they want to collect the new passport and their automated address number. They can also select a passport validity period of five or 10 years, according to the available options.
- Upload a photograph and pay the fee
Applicants must upload a recent passport-size photograph that meets the required specifications. After checking and confirming the information, they can pay the applicable fee online and submit the application.
Important requirements
The Ministry of Interior has highlighted several requirements that applicants should keep in mind.
The uploaded photograph should have been taken within the previous six months and must be clear and meet the specified requirements. Applicants should not reuse the photograph from their previous passport.
Citizens below the age of 21 cannot currently renew their passports through Sahel. They are required to visit the National Identity Center in person with a parent and the necessary documents.
Travelers should also pay close attention to passport validity when planning trips to GCC countries. Having a valid Civil ID does not replace the requirement for a valid passport for international travel.
Citizens are therefore advised to check the validity of their own passports and those of their children well before traveling. Renewing passports in advance can help prevent delays or complications during travel.
The new Sahel service is part of Kuwait’s wider move toward digital government services and is intended to make routine passport renewal more convenient for eligible citizens.
