REDUCTION OF SUBSIDIES, INCREASE IN PETROL PRICES, PLANS TO INCREASE REVENUE

Kuwait City: Government with efforts to increase revenue in the face of historic budget deficit. The Cabinet Finance Committee has examined the possibility of reducing government subsidies in the country.


The subsidy costs about four billion Kuwaiti dinars a year. The health insurance contract, which comes with an annual cost of 154 million Kuwaiti dinars, is being considered for complete waiver.

A number of proposals have been put forward to end aid to Kuwaiti workers earning more than 3,000 Kuwaiti dinars a month, limit the benefits to employees earning more than 7,000 Kuwaiti dinars, and eliminate fuel subsidies.
