LARGE SUMS TO RENEW PERMITS FOR THOSE OVER 60, DECISION NEEDS TO BE OVERTURNED

Kuwait City: Demand that the Manpower Authority's decision to renew the work permits of expatriates over the age of 60 who do not have a university degree should be reversed. Mohammed al-Zak, chairman of the Kuwaiti Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has written to Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid to raise the issue.

He said the decision would cause Kuwait to lose skilled workers and affect the country's economy. He urged the government to rescind the decision and avoid implementing it.

According to sources, there are some disputes between Abdullah Al Salman and the Director General of the Authority, Ahmed Al Mousa. Currently, the fee for renewing a permit is 2,000 dinars.

Salman wants to make it 500 dinars. The minister had sought to convince al-Mousa of this and to convene a meeting of the Authority's board of directors. Salman will also raise his views in the cabinet in this regard.
