The planned visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the United Arab Emirates has been postponed due to worries about the Omicron form of Covid-19. His journey to Kuwait has been postponed as well. On January 4, the Prime Minister was scheduled to travel to the United Arab Emirates. In 2022, this was scheduled to be his first international journey. Modi's visit to the UAE was timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic relations.

During his visit, he was supposed to announce the India-UAE CEPA. To deepen their economic connections, India and the UAE have been in talks to finalise a comprehensive free-trade deal. The Prime Minister was also anticipated to pay a visit to the Dubai Expo, which is now taking place.
