Qatar Approves Fee Cuts for Work Permits and Labor Services — Relief for Expats and Private Sector

Doha: In a move welcomed by expatriates and businesses alike, Qatar's Cabinet has approved proposals to reduce fees for hiring workers, work permits, seals, certifications, and document authentications. These changes are aimed at alleviating financial pressure on private sector companies and streamlining labor procedures.

The decision came during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, following submissions from the Qatari Ministry of Labor. The Ministry will finalize the categories eligible for these fee waivers and reductions, ensuring that the benefits are distributed equitably.

Key Highlights:
Lower fees for private sector hiring and work permits.

Reduced costs for seals, certificates, and labor-related documentation.

Expected to benefit expatriates and employers.

In addition to labor reforms, the Cabinet:

Approved objectives for the National Committee for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing, with updates to related laws.

Referred new tax regulation amendments to the Shura Council, aiming to align with international standards.

Reviewed domestic worker exit procedures and took decisions based on Shura Council recommendations.

Expressed concern over humanitarian issues in Gaza, calling for immediate cessation of hostilities and provision of aid.

Lauded the Emir’s participation in the Arab Summit in Baghdad, recognizing it as a step forward for regional unity.

Celebrated the recent visit of US President Donald Trump, seeing it as a milestone in Qatar-US diplomatic relations.

These developments reflect Qatar’s ongoing efforts to support businesses, safeguard expat interests, and enhance legal frameworks in line with global practices. Further details on the implementation of fee waivers are expected from the Ministry of Labor soon.
