Trump Launches $1M ‘Gold Card’ Visa Scheme for Wealthy Immigrants

Former President Donald Trump has launched a high-value immigration initiative—dubbed the “Trump Gold Card”—offering expedited U.S. residency and a path to citizenship for wealthy foreigners who can invest at least $1 million. Announced via social media, the program is marketed toward individuals and businesses that can demonstrate a “substantial benefit” to the United States. The move comes amid a broader administration crackdown on immigration, including increased work visa fees and heightened deportation efforts.

Under the scheme, individuals must pay a $1 million fee, while businesses sponsoring employees are required to invest $2 million, plus additional processing costs. A premium “platinum” tier, offering special tax incentives, will also be available for $5 million. All applicants must submit a non-refundable $15,000 processing fee before their case is reviewed. According to the program’s website, the substantial financial commitment serves as evidence that the immigrant will contribute significantly to the U.S. economy.

The Gold Card has drawn criticism since its initial proposal earlier this year, with opponents—including some Democrats—arguing that it unfairly privileges affluent applicants over ordinary immigrants. While Trump compared the card to a green card, he clarified that it specifically targets “high-level” professionals and investors who can “create jobs.” He touted the initiative as a “bargain” that will help American companies retain top global talent.

This premium visa rollout coincides with stricter immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, including paused asylum processing, travel bans affecting several African and Middle Eastern nations, and a newly imposed $100,000 fee on certain H-1B visa applicants. The contrasting approaches—fast-track entry for the wealthy alongside broader restrictions—highlight the administration’s focus on economic selection within its immigration policy.
