The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a rigorous inspection campaign targeting the illegal parking of trucks on major roads and under bridges across the emirate. This initiative aims to ease traffic congestion, enhance road safety, protect infrastructure, and preserve the city’s aesthetic appeal. The RTA is taking strict action against violators, emphasizing that haphazardly parked trucks obstruct traffic flow and pose significant risks to other road users.
Arif Shakri, Director of the Right-of-Way at the RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency, stated that these inspections are part of ongoing efforts to monitor road activities, safeguard public assets, and curb illegal practices. The campaign will be conducted regularly to detect violations and enforce compliance, ensuring roads remain clear and functional for all.
Penalties for illegal truck parking are substantial, with fines starting from Dh5,000 and escalating to as high as Dh200,000 for repeated or severe offenses. The fines are determined based on the degree of disruption to traffic and the potential safety hazards created by the violation. This strict penalty structure underscores the RTA’s commitment to maintaining order and safety on Dubai’s roadways.
To support truck drivers and encourage compliance, the RTA has also developed 14 designated truck rest areas across strategic locations in Dubai. These facilities offer essential amenities such as prayer rooms, fuel stations, retail outlets, restaurants, and maintenance workshops. By providing safe and legal parking options, the RTA aims to reduce accidents, discourage unsafe parking practices, and improve overall road safety. Truck drivers and transport companies are urged to use these dedicated areas and adhere to parking regulations.
