Major Weather Shift Ahead for UAE: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms, and Hail Expected Next Week

  • 12/12/2025

The UAE is preparing for significant weather changes next week, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail, and colder temperatures forecast across the country. According to Dr. Ahmed Habib of the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), the unstable conditions will peak between December 16 and 19. Cloud cover is expected to begin spreading from Friday night, with rain initially forming in eastern regions by Saturday before reaching coastal and northern areas by Sunday.

This shift is driven by low-pressure systems extending from the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea, which are channeling abundant moisture into the UAE. Combined with upper-air instability, these conditions are likely to trigger moderate to heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and dusty intervals. While rain is anticipated nationwide, northern and eastern emirates are expected to experience more intense downpours, including possible thunderstorms and hail.

Temperatures are set to drop noticeably, signaling the arrival of winter. Daytime highs may fall to 26–27°C, with nighttime lows dipping to 12–15°C. Authorities have urged residents, especially those in coastal and marine communities, to exercise caution due to rough seas and reduced visibility. Fishermen and beachgoers are advised to avoid sea activities during periods of strong winds and high waves.

The NCM continues to monitor the situation and will issue updates as needed. Residents are encouraged to follow official warnings, avoid valleys and flood-prone areas, and drive safely during rain and low visibility. With significant weather activity expected over several days, preparedness and caution are emphasized to ensure public safety across the Emirates.
