KUWAIT IS SEEING AN INCREASE IN TICKET DEMAND

Kuwait City: According to an official source in the travel and tourist sector, the Cabinet's recent decision to allow all citizens to travel has resurrected ticket reservations, which have increased by 88 percent. According to the source, demand for flight tickets has been "exceeding the limit" since February 20, coinciding with the national holidays, which run until March 5, doubling the number of passengers and commercial aircraft departing and arriving at Kuwait International Airport. He said that decisions to relax travel restrictions have resulted in a rise in airline reservations.

According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the total number of flight tickets sold in the last few days was around 222,000, a significant increase over the same period last year, amid expectations of more reservations once the pandemic wave has passed and travel restrictions have been lifted. During the month of January, ticket sales totaled around KD 17.5 million.

The airport this week showed signs of recovery and a resumption of momentum in the field. The operating authorities made the required arrangements to ease the movement of incoming and outgoing planes as of Sunday, February 20, the day for allowing all travellers to travel and removing restrictions, despite ongoing health precautions.

To keep up with the gradual opening, approvals to expand flights are likely to be completed in the following days. According to the source, hundreds of thousands of people will spend their national holidays abroad, necessitating a rise in the number of flights, with the benefits to the transportation business as well as passengers coming from lower ticket prices. He commended the Council of Ministers' decision to allow everyone to travel, saying that this will help to revive the travel and aviation sectors, which have suffered significant losses in recent years as a result of restrictions in various Gulf, Arab, and European nations.
