KCCI BLASTS GOVERNMENT POLICIES ON '60s' EXPAT VISAS- HH CROWN PRINCE TAKES UP THE CAUSE

Kuwait City: Mohammad Al-Saqer, Chairman of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated that the government's actions on the "60-years" rule for expats are uncivilised and may be unconstitutional. "His Highness the Crown Prince understands the situation and has adopted it," he stated. In this context, new procedures are expected to be introduced."

According to Al-Saqer, the business environment in Kuwait and the private sector do not receive government support. Except for the State of Kuwait, which did not assist the private sector during the COVID-19 issue, all Gulf countries backed the private sector. "We do not want financial assistance," he continued, "but we do want the authorities to streamline procedures, alter laws, and reduce constraints on the private sector." We will meet with the government for a prolonged period of time in the future. We hope that the government would then reconsider the private sector's concerns. The family's roster comprises cadres and various experiences from all walks of life, exemplifying national unity. There are no quotas in place. Privatization does not exist in Kuwait. It requires a defined programme, similar to what transpired in the early 1980s in the United Kingdom, as well as the Norwegian programme. Privatization of vital areas such as energy, education, and others is required."

Al-Saqer voiced concern that the spike in oil prices would be a "curse on Kuwait." "The chamber does not have fangs," he remarked, "but we have a mind and a concept through which we try to steer the government's decision." There are corrupt merchants, including those involved in the visa, alcohol, and prostitute trades. However, the commercial centre in Kuwait attracts a large number of people who are patriotic and care about the country."
