Kuwait City: The fire at the Mubarakiya has damaged around 300 stores in the centre of Kuwait City, causing enormous losses in the millions of dinars. The majority of the destroyed shops are in the arms market (Souq Al-Salah) because the fire spread from there to perfume shops, household appliances, and other businesses as hundreds of firefighters, Ministry of Interior personnel, and National Guard personnel mobilised to control the raging inferno.

The presence of alcohol, which is utilised in the production of perfumes and wooden umbrellas, aided in fanning the flames. Efforts to extinguish the fire continued until late Thursday night, while First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Ahmad Al-Nawaf announced that the area exposed to the fire will be closed until Saturday in order to secure the property of the owners of the damaged shops and their surroundings, as well as to complete the investigation to determine the causes of the fire.

The incident caused very minor property damage, and no significant casualties were reported. State Property Department in the Ministry of Finance requires lessees of stores in the weapons market and Mubarakiya to sign contracts for obligatory insurance, which helps to insurance companies compensating the owners of the destroyed shops for their losses.
