EXPATRIATES FEAR NOT BEING ABLE TO RETURN HOME AS AIR TICKET PRICES SKYROCKET

Kuwait City:  With the onset of summer in Kuwait, there has been a record increase in air fares to India. Despite the limited number of seats available, ticket prices are three to four times higher. Kerala has the highest number of expatriates. From Kuwait to Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode and Kochi airports, the rates are higher. Connection flights that take hours to reach other countries are also charged exorbitant rates.

Over the next few days, one-way ticket prices at most airlines are hovering between 70-100 dinars. Expatriates who previously thought they could take tickets after the restrictions imposed on Covid were lifted are now in distress. People in the area say the current crisis is due to the complete non-resumption of services that existed before Covid. In addition, a number of expatriate organizations have petitioned the Minister and the authorities to increase the number of flights in Kuwait, which is home to one million Indians.

This time, the one-way ticket will be charged at a higher rate than in the past. Despite the withdrawal of the Air Bubble contract, the sharp rise in ticket prices has taken passengers by surprise. Return tickets can only be purchased with a minimum of two to three months' salary. Therefore, the desire for the country is also a dream for such people. At present, it costs lakhs for a family to travel to Kerala.
