Kuwait City: The Kuwait Fire Brigade said no casualties were reported in the country this morning. At 4:28 GMT, an earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale shook the region. Local newspapers reported that many people were woken up by the impact of the quake and that goods in supermarkets had fallen to the ground.

The earthquake in Kuwait is a continuation of the earthquake in Iran. The quake affected Kuwait and parts of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain, officials said. The Kuwait Fire Service said in a statement that it had received several phone calls from the southern part of the country but no accidents were reported anywhere.

The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued.
