EVENING BURIAL SERVICES AVAILABLE IN KUWAIT

Kuwait City: The Director of the Funeral Affairs Department, Dr. Faisal Al-Awadi, confirmed that burial procession at night is available on all days of the year, not just during the summer, in response to citizens' requests to the concerned authorities in the Kuwait Municipality to set evening timings for funeral processions in light of the rise in temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius in some areas.

Citizens had complained to the daily that the families of the deceased and their families, mourners, and workers in cemeteries suffer from extreme heat during the funeral and burial procedures during the daytime, both before noon and in the afternoon, putting them at risk of heat stroke and driving many people away from the funerals.

They added that many individuals and residents want to visit cemeteries to participate in the funerals and burials of the deceased for good acts. The funeral rites are normally held after the afternoon prayer or sometimes after the evening prayer, but due to the high temperature, these people may be unwilling to go to the cemetery and instead go to diwaniyas to give condolences.

Citizens urged that the municipality should consider this issue, and that the burial time be moved to the evening to make things easier for people and to relieve them of the oppressive heat, especially because it is still early in the summer and will be hotter in July and August.

They stated that the municipality used to set nighttime timings throughout the summer in previous years, and they hope that it will do so again this year, so that people are not discouraged from attending funerals, standing at graves, waiting, and praying for the dead, due to the extreme heat.
