NEGLECT KILLED 700 PALM TREES - WATERING CONTRACT NOT RENEWED

Kuwait City: According to the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fisheries Resources (PAAAFR), approximately 700 palm trees died along highways last July due to a lack of water as a result of the contract for watering and caring for them expiring, which prompted environmental activists and volunteer teams to launch an initiative last May under the title 'For a more beautiful Kuwait,' with the goal of preserving vegetation cover and beautifying the country's areas with flowers.

The activists emphasized the necessity of stepping up greening campaigns and coordinating the efforts of all parties in order to improve the aesthetic shape of the country's regions, add modern touches to streets and roads, and speed up the implementation of tree-planting projects in order to combat pollution on the one hand and realize the vision necessary to improve Kuwait's appearance and lessen the arid desertification of certain areas on the other.

Informed sources at the PAAAFR confirmed that its teams observed the deaths of about 700 palm trees in July due to the lengthy documentary cycle between governmental institutions and agencies and the waiting for approvals to float tenders.
