Kuwait City:  Intervention of the Ministerial Security Committee to solve the problems in the country's taxi sector. The safety committee announced plans to look into the country's taxi situation, the significant increase in licensing granted to them and its implications on traffic and population imbalances. The proposal is part of a major report prepared by the Traffic Higher Council. The local newspaper reported that it has also received approval from the management at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Sources said the security committee is waiting to examine the plans as they are linked to several other sectors like transport and investment. The report also calls for taxi jobs to be restricted to retired Kuwaitis, Biduni, children of Kuwaiti mothers and GCC residents, as the job is in high demand. Also, retired Kuwaitis will be allowed to drive a taxi with a personal license without working for a taxi company.
