Kuwait City: The concerned Kuwaiti authorities remain on guard despite assurances that there are no plans to halt flights between the two nations or forbid the entry of food supplies from Lebanon as the negative effects of the spread of cholera in Lebanon continue to worsen and claim a number of lives.

The Ministry of Health stated last Thursday that it is keen to take preventive measures and deal with any cholera case from the Lebanese State or elsewhere. Sources told that the local health authorities did not issue any directive to stop or suspend the import of vegetables and fruits from Lebanon.

According to sources, the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition (PAFN) employs teams who work around the clock to implement policies, regulations, and an efficient control system in accordance with international standards and specifications in order to ensure food safety and security and improve community nutrition.

According to additional sources, "all shipments of foreign fruits and vegetables are seized upon arrival in Kuwait to collect samples that are then sent to the laboratory for testing. The products are released for distribution once the test results indicate they are safe for human consumption, provided that a certificate confirming their absence of pesticide residues is attached.
