Kuwait's Summer Heat to Break with Arrival of Suhail Season on August 24

Kuwait’s Al-Ajari Scientific Center has confirmed that the intense summer heat will begin to break on August 24, with the arrival of the Suhail season. This 52-day astronomical period, lasting until October 14, is expected to bring lower temperatures, increased humidity, and potential rainfall, offering relief from the prolonged heatwave.

Temperatures are projected to drop below 50°C during the Suhail season, with noticeably cooler nights and higher humidity, particularly in coastal regions. The center also anticipates rainfall as humidity levels rise, marking a transition from the current Kulaibin season—a period characterized by extreme heat and dry conditions.

Key indicators of Suhail’s onset include cooler weather, southeasterly winds that mitigate hot desert gusts, longer shadows, morning dew, and the sun shifting southward after being nearly overhead in summer. The star Suhail itself will become visible in Kuwait’s dawn sky starting September 4, as documented by local astronomers.

The Suhail season is deeply rooted in Kuwaiti cultural and meteorological traditions, serving as a natural marker for seasonal change. Its arrival promises not only climatic relief but also ecological changes, such as the growth of leafy plants and calmer land conditions, signaling the gradual transition toward autumn.
