The Omani Ministry of Labour has issued a clarification regarding reports circulating on social media about the layoff of employees at telecommunications company Ooredoo Oman. The ministry confirmed that it has coordinated with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and engaged with Ooredoo's management following reports that 125 employees had been laid off. This intervention underscores the government’s proactive role in addressing labour issues in the private sector.

According to the ministry, Ooredoo management offered employees an option to voluntarily resign in exchange for a severance package equivalent to 24 months’ full salary. Of the 125 employees offered this package, 114 accepted the voluntary exit. Eleven employees reportedly declined the offer, prompting further discussions between the company, the labour union, and the General Federation of Workers of Oman (GFWO).

The Ministry of Labour facilitated a meeting between Ooredoo’s management and union representatives to reach a mutually agreed solution regarding the affected employees. This coordinated effort reflects Oman's structured approach to labour disputes, balancing corporate restructuring with employee rights and social stability.

The ministry’s statement aims to provide transparency and reassure the public that employee welfare is being safeguarded through regulated processes. It also highlights the importance of dialogue between companies, unions, and government bodies in managing workforce transitions in key sectors such as telecommunications.
