Oman Issues Stern Warning to Taxi Apps Against Unauthorized Fare Hikes

  • 18/10/2025

Oman's government has issued a direct warning to all taxi-hailing application operators, prohibiting them from changing their fare structures without official permission. The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology emphasized that companies must strictly adhere to a 2018 ministerial resolution which mandates prior approval for any fare increases. This notice was formally delivered to all companies operating licensed smart transport platforms in the country.

The ministry explicitly stated that implementing any unauthorized fare changes constitutes a clear violation of national regulations. It warned that operators who fail to comply will face necessary legal action. This move reinforces the government's role in regulating public transport costs and protecting consumers from arbitrary price hikes.

The directive underscores the ministry's commitment to maintaining a controlled and fair pricing system within the Sultanate's land transport sector. By enforcing this rule, the authorities aim to ensure that taxi services remain accessible and that all fare changes are transparent and officially sanctioned.
