Saudi Arabia is preparing to introduce high‑tech air taxi services in its major cities as part of a push to redefine urban mobility under Vision 2030. The Kingdom has signed an agreement with US‑based Archer Aviation, a leading manufacturer of electric vertical take‑off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, to develop and eventually operate the service. The deal was finalized during the “Comexion Global Summit” held in Riyadh, marking a key step in Saudi Arabia’s advanced air mobility strategy.

Initial operations are expected to focus on key urban centers such as Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam, as well as mega‑projects like Red Sea Global. The partnership will involve upgrading and expanding the regulatory framework for eVTOL operations, aligning with standards set by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) emphasized that collaboration with global innovators like Archer will strengthen the operational and regulatory foundations needed to safely integrate eVTOLs into the national aviation network.

The rollout will be phased, beginning with test flights, proof‑of‑concept demonstrations, infrastructure preparations, and public awareness campaigns. Sulaiman Almuhaimeed, Executive Vice President of GACA, stated that the initiative supports the Kingdom’s Advanced Air Mobility Roadmap and reinforces Saudi Arabia’s ambition to become a leader in next‑generation air transport.

While specific launch cities and timelines have not been detailed, the move represents a significant stride toward making urban travel more efficient, sustainable, and aligned with futuristic transportation goals. By introducing air taxis, Saudi Arabia aims to alleviate ground congestion, reduce carbon emissions, and provide a cutting‑edge travel experience, further cementing its position as a regional and global hub for innovation.
