Saudi Ministry Urges Pilgrims to Avoid Crowding Near Black Stone During Tawaf

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has issued a directive urging pilgrims to avoid stopping or crowding near the Hajar al-Aswad (Black Stone) during Tawaf. Prolonged停留 in this area disrupts the movement of worshippers around the Kaaba and poses safety risks in the crowded Grand Mosque in Mecca.

The ministry clarified that touching or kissing the Black Stone is not obligatory for Tawaf to be valid. Pilgrims can simply gesture toward it (Istilam) while continuing to circulate without interruption. This guidance aims to maintain a smooth and secure flow of pilgrims, especially during peak times.

Adherence to these instructions is critical for ensuring the safety and comfort of all worshippers performing Hajj and Umrah. The ministry emphasized that collective compliance helps prevent stampedes and bottlenecks, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to use technology and crowd management strategies for a safer pilgrimage experience.

The directive reflects the Kingdom’s proactive approach to enhancing ritual efficiency and visitor safety. By reducing congestion near the Kaaba’s eastern corner, authorities aim to preserve the spiritual atmosphere while prioritizing physical well-being, ensuring that all pilgrims can perform their rites with dignity and peace of mind.
