Kuwait Blocks ROBLOX Temporarily Citing Child Safety Concerns

Kuwait’s Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) has officially blocked the online game ROBLOX in the country, confirming earlier reports by Al-Qabas. The decision, announced on Thursday, cites the authority’s mandate to protect users—particularly children—from exposure to unsafe practices, exploitation, inappropriate content, and risky financial transactions within the game.

CITRA described the ban as a temporary measure, pending ongoing negotiations with ROBLOX’s operating company. The regulator emphasized that the block will be reconsidered only if the company demonstrates compliance with removing harmful content and implementing robust child protection standards. The move follows numerous complaints from parents and Kuwaiti institutions about the game’s negative impact on youth behavior and values.

The Ministry of Information had previously urged the Ministry of Transport and Communications to impose the ban, reflecting broad public concern that ROBLOX promotes violence, aggressive behavior, and content conflicting with local customs and traditions. A government source noted that the decision aligns with similar actions taken by Qatar, Oman, China, Turkey, Jordan, and North Korea, all of which restricted the game to safeguard children’s mental and emotional well-being.

This step underscores Kuwait’s growing focus on digital safety and ethical content regulation. By temporarily blocking ROBLOX, authorities aim to pressure the platform into adopting stricter moderation and safety protocols, ensuring a safer online environment for young users before potentially restoring access.
