EXPATS RESIDENCE OUTSIDE OF KUWAIT FOR 6 MONTHS OR LONGER WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED

  • 25/10/2022

Kuwait City: It was decided by the Ministry of Interior's Residency Affairs Department that expats who hold Article 17 (government sector visas), 19 (partners visas), 22 (family visas), 23 (students visas), and 24 (self sponsorship visas) will lose their right to live in Kuwait if they are gone for more than six months. The time spent outside of Kuwait will be calculated beginning on August 1, 2022, and the last day to enter will be January 31, 2023. According to the provisions of Article 12, paragraph 3 of the Expats Residence Law, any expat whose stay outside Kuwait exceeds six months will have their residence automatically revoked.

For those who had an Article 18 (private visa) and had been abroad for six months or longer as of May 2022, a decision had already been made. Expats covered by Article 18 must enter Kuwait before October 31, 2022.

The Ministry of Interior provided expats with a place to stay outside of Kuwait for more than two years because of the pandemic crisis, which caused some airports in some countries to close.
